Welcome
The Tampa Bay Fire Elite lacrosse team was founded in the spring of 2006 to provide Tampa Bay area high school and middle school lacrosse players an opportunity to compete during the off- season months. In the language of the Calusa, the indigenous Native American tribe of the region, the word "Tampa" means "sticks of fire," apparently referring to the high concentration of lightning strikes that Tampa Bay receives every year. Other historians similarly claim the name refers to "the place to gather sticks". Either way, the shared Native American history of the Tampa Bay region and the sport of lacrosse, suggests the name "Fire" most closely represents the intended spirit and style of team play and the personal characteristics desired of players chosen to compete for the team.
